Using 20 years of experience in the mobile telecom industry, Brian will deep dive into how cell site simulators (aka IMSI-catchers) work on 1G to 5G cellular networks. The EFF Rayhunter aims for cheap and easy detection of these fake base stations. We’ll explore the device’s capabilities and look at locally obtained data to determine if it’s useful or even relevant in today’s world of rapidly expanding mass surveillance.
