DC865 June Talk - Signals & Survival: Hacking the Airwaves

  • C-Spire 10100 Global Way Knoxville, TN, 37932 United States (map)

Signals & Survival: Hacking the Airwaves with GMRS, Ham, Prepping, Python & OSINT

This month, join us at C-Spire where JOSINT will present: Signals & Survival: Hacking the Airwaves with GMRS, Ham, Prepping, Python & OSINT.

When the grid’s down, the towers are fried, and Starlink’s geofenced… what’s your backup? This talk is a crash course for hackers who want to own their airspace. We’ll cover how to legally (and cheaply) get on the air with GMRS, how to program both GMRS and Ham radios for tactical flexibility, and why every hacker should have basic radio comms in their threat model. But this isn’t just about old-school voice. We’ll explore how to blend light prepping with SDR tools like HackRF One, PlutoSDR, and even Flipper Zeros. We’ll also look at encoding and digital methods (yes, including Rattlegram and similar low-bandwidth hacks) for when stealth or data transmission matters. To take it further, I’ll attempt to demonstrate how Python scripting can forecast band conditions and weather to inform your comms strategy—and how OSINT techniques can give you real-time intel when it counts. Whether you’re building a resilient hacker network, a light prepper loadout, or just want to say “Hello world” over the air when the lights go out, this session will get you started.

Grab a free ticket so we have an estimated headcount for food/drinks!
